I grew up in Chicago with four older sisters and a little brother. My parents, a history teacher and English professor, encouraged all of us to stay in liberal arts which we liked to joke -secured our futures in restaurant work. I spent my junior year of college in Rome and fell in love with art, Italy, food, and travel. I returned home and much to my parents’ delight, I changed my major to Fine Arts. Over the years I dabbled in metalwork, and woodwork, and moved from the city to the country and back to the city. My single years were a series of apprenticeships in Chicago, Missoula, NYC, and San Antonio.
In NY I spent my days apprenticing at the studio of furniture designer, Jim Zivic and my evenings answering calls for the CEO and Chief of Staff at Goldman, Sachs. It was a very confusing albeit exciting existence. By day I donned a hard hat, I was covered in soot and hung from scaffolding while working on a building facade in Alphabet City, and at night I’d travel to a protected floor in the financial district, taking messages from NY Times reporters and reading the profit and loss statement to the executive team’s voice mail while wearing a suit. I’d finish the day’s work enjoying the perks - a car service home.
As much as I loved NY I found that the older I got the more my quality of life stayed the same. Eventually, I found my way to San Antonio, TX. A little older and war-weary from my 2 jobs a day in one of the most expensive cities in the world. I joined a tech startup, Rackspace. It was there that I enjoyed the crazy pace and entrepreneurship mentality not to mention the health benefits and grownup salary. In the ten years I was there I began running projects and programs. Although it was a detour from art it was an experience that has served me well - managing budgets, high-risk changes, diverse personalities, and talent has given me a great foundation for managing my own graphics projects.
Eventually, I was able to combine my project management skills with my design skills. I returned to Rackspace and was embedded with the Real Estate Team where I worked on experiential environments and wayfinding for Rackspace offices all over the world. Many of my clients today are nonprofits and for-impact organizations including a sport psychology organization dedicated to helping student-athletes. My work is a collaboration with my clients, understanding their needs, their constraints, and their goals without sacrificing quality.
I have made San Antonio my home. The warmth and cost of living may have lured me, but the Latin culture, local music, and breakfast tacos have made it hard to leave. I married a local Texan and have 3 beautiful kids.
I currently work with an array of clients on projects all over the world.
