I apprenticed with a furniture designer in NYC, Jim Zivic. Most of my work involved hand-finishing the cold rolled steel. His furniture is known for its rustic gunmetal patina finish.
This building was built in 1999 in Alphabet City. We were commissioned to patina the awning, window frames, and address. The summer I did this job was particularly challenging because it rained constantly. We even had Hurricane Floyd threaten our working conditions. After I finished my day hanging off the side of this building, I would ride my bike back to my apartment for a quick shower, don a suit, and head to Goldman, Sachs for an evening shift working on the executive floor for the CEO and Chief of Staff.
My time living in Montana where I did quite a bit of fly fishing inspired these two pieces.
Canoe - baling wire and welding rod
Fly fisherman - sheet metal, baling wire, stainless steel fishing line finished off with a beaded nymph fly
San Antonio high school at Randolph Air Force base commissioned me to make their mascot. I realize this photo is from too far away. Their mascot is a creature I've never heard of - a Ro-Hawk - which is basically a hawk on a rocket. I hand forged the hawk. The talons are made out of rebar and the rocket is stainless steel.
